Exok Games, the studio behind the hit indie platformer Celeste, has released a brand new trailer for their newest upcoming game at the 2022 Game Awards: Earthblade. Earthblade will be released in 2024.
Earthblade: What We Know So Far
Earthblade was actually teased back in 2021 by Exok Games as a “2D explor-action game in a seamless pixel world”. Back then, the release date was only teased as 20XX. This new Earthblade trailer has provided our first look at the gameplay for the upcoming Metroidvania title, as well as a glimpse at the story and characters.
An official website has also been established for Earthblade. The official description for the game reads:
You are Névoa, an enigmatic child of Fate returning at long last to Earth, in this explor-action platformer. Earthblade’s lush pixel art world offers seamless exploration, challenging combat, and countless mysteries to pick apart. Travel the remnants of a ruined world, encounter denizens both friend and foe, and piece together the Earth’s fractured history.
So far, no official release date has been provided for Earthblade other than the fact that it is coming in 2024, and the game is currently available to wishlist on Steam. Steam is so far the only platform known for Earthblade, though it is very possible it will come to consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, just like Celeste.
At this time, no other projects by Exok Games have been announced, and the studio has no plans to develop a sequel to Celeste, with developer Maddy Thorson explaining that the studio does not think they can do the game justice with a sequel and would much rather tell new stories like Earthblade.
The final DLC for Celeste, Chapter 9, was released back in 2019 and featured a variety of new levels and music for players to experience in the final climax of the story.
