Nintendo has already announced that they will be dropping the price of their 3DS handheld on August 12th, but it appears that the world’s largest retailer may be looking to jump the gun.  It is rumored that Walmart will begin selling the newly discounted handheld for $169.99 beginning on Tuesday, August 9th.

Alongside the recent price drop announcement, Nintendo also revealed that it would be initiating the “Ambassadors” program.  This program will give free games to those that adopted the handheld early, and paid full price only a short few months ago.  The stipulations were set that you must have connected to the eShop before August 11th.  Which means that if Walmart does intend to start selling the device on the 9th, you’ll have two days to register and pickup the games on the free as well.

The Ambassadors offering consists of 10 free NES and GBA titles, so if you were indeed in the market for a 3DS, there probably isn’t a better time than August 9th.  Gamers, can’t trust em as far as you can throw em.
