EA ended its E3 press conference by showing off more of Anthem, introducing a bunch of new features that were previously unknown about the title.
Players assume the role of a Freelancer, someone from a group of people who live in Fort Tarsus and leave civilization to explore the massive surrounding world. The game features both single player and co-operative elements in a “shared world” experience where the world is constantly changing through world-altering terrain occurrences known as “Shaper Storms.”
Anthem was first revealed in a teaser trailer at EA’s press conference last year. The mostly-CGI trailer showed off the massive, open world with players flying their mechanized suits around, known as Javelins, to fight against creatures to get resources, weapons, and items.
Each Javelin can be customized to fit a unique experience with EA showing off two new classes this year: Interceptor and the Storm. The other Javelin classes shown were the Ranger class, an all-around and balanced Javelin, and the Colossus, the main tank role. These Javelins were originally revealed last year.
The game is being developed by Bioware, the studio behind the popular Mass Effect and Dragon Age series of games. Bioware will be looking for a quick rise to form after the disappointment from the studio’s last game, Mass Effect Andromeda.
Anthem was the main focus of EA’s press conference this year—the game was detailed in a large segment with some of the development team. The game will be split into two sections with players fighting together in a shard world before going into a single-player only experience in the main city.
Anthem is set to launch on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on Feb. 22, 2019.
