Dwayne Johnson has revealed that he is working on a secret video game movie project. While details are quite vague, the project could be tied to Microsoft and Xbox game consoles.
Johnson is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, finding success in plenty of franchises such as The Fast and the Furious and G.I. Joe. He recently had a string of successful films in 2021, including Disney’s Jungle Cruise and Netflix’s Red Notice. In fact, Netflix recently greenlit two sequels for Red Notice with Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot all set to return. His two major projects are for DC with Black Adam and DC League of Super Pets, where he voices Superman’s pet dog, Krypto.
Johnson reveals excitement for his upcoming video game movie project
In a recent interview with Men’s Journal, where he chatted about his role as Black Adam, Johnson also mentioned a super-secret video game movie project that he is currently working on. While he did not directly state what video game is being adapted, he did say that it is “one of the biggest, most bad-ss games” out there.
This will not be the first video game movie project that Johnson has worked on. The actor starred in 2005’s Doom along with 2018’s Rampage. Both were not the most critically successful films, but Rampage did much better at the box office than Doom did. Recently, Johnson starred in the recent Jumanji films. The movies are not technically based on real video games but instead set in video game worlds.
With the project mostly likely attached to Microsoft, it has the potential to become one of their biggest franchises to date. While it’s most likely not Halo since that is already getting a TV adaptation, it could be Gears of War, which has been in the works for years over at Universal. Still, it could be something completely different with Microsoft acquiring Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. Dwayne Johnson isn’t giving us much to work on here on the video game project, but it will be interesting to see what he will have in store.
