Dwarven Forge is a well-known creator of high-quality terrain for tabletop games, most especially Dungeons & Dragons. Lava pools, dense forests, winding caverns, and trapped dungeons are just some of the modular pieces you can purchase from their online store. Last year they ran a pre-sale for Pathfinder 2’s launch, which was titled PlagueStone. Now PlagueStone has arrived, and we got our hands on some of the pieces to check them out in person!
This release different than Dwarven Forge’s usual Kickstarter approach to new products and was set for a faster turnaround time to be delivered. However, the pandemic got in the way of production. Through Dwarven Forge’s usual excellent customer service, they kept all purchasers informed throughout the process. While it was a longer wait, it was very exciting to finally have them come to our home and use them in our D&D game.
For this pre-sale, we checked out some of their add-on packs. This included Curved Cages, Sinister Workshop, and Alchemy Lab. Some of the pieces they included as part of their larger packs, Cavern, and Dungeon-based pieces we already have, and they are of fantastic quality! With our eyes turning to these smaller, accessory-based pieces, were excited to flesh out dungeons and battles.
The Curved Cages are beautifully designed. They work well for building an entire circular cage or having smaller cages against a wall. Their doors open, adding a fun affect to implement during gaming. The busted out walls are also nice for tense circumstances players may find themselves in.
The Sinister Workshop was truly creepy and great for the most evil of places to venture to in-game. We’ve got plenty of body parts here to add in some gore, as well as a Necromancer’s Workbench with manacles to restrain victims. All of the smaller pieces this came with are incredibly detailed and strongly made. There is no fear of the manacle chains snapping or the staffs breaking.
The Alchemy Lab also had multiple tiny parts that were finely crafted. The real fun here was the LED elements that add an extra dimension to any game. All of the small vials and distillers are excellent detailed pieces for workshops players discover.
Overall, PlagueStone by Dwarven Forge is another excellent addition to their collection. It is not currently available for on-demand purchase in their online store, but keep an eye out for it in the future.
