The RTS genre has been pretty much killed in recent years. A few have come and gone in recent years, and even StarCraft II is dwindling in popularity as the days go by. Despite this, we see a few come around every once in a while and they’re almost like hidden gems at this point. Among those is the most recent RTS, DwarfHeim which is now in a publishing deal with Merge Games. You’ll know them from games like Dead Cells and the upcoming Cloudpunk.

DwarfHeim pits a team of 1-4 players against another team of the same size in building and defending a dwarven city. You’ll face the threat of not only your opponents but also hordes of feral trolls looking to pillage your village. You and your allies will have to manage your defenses, homes, and food to support your people. This is done through different classes that you give you special abilities and buildings. On the surface, it looks like an RTS that’s fitting for players of any skill level. It also has a cartoony style fitting of the type of game and for dwarves. Dwarves and cartoonish things seem to go quite well together.

If the co-op isn’t your forte though, then there’s no need to fear. DwarfHeim also sports two singleplayer modes that allow solo players to enjoy the game as well. You have the Sandbox mode if you want to relax and build up a small dwarven village. If you want something a little more intense though, Survival mode will put your skills to the test. Both of these can be played with up to three friends too, so everything allows some solo play. Otherwise, those looking to play with friends have something to look forward to. DwarfHeim comes with a friend-pass, allowing you to invite a friend to play completely free.

There’s a lot of incentives when it comes to DwarfHeim. It truly seems like one of its kind and is one you’ll want to keep your eye on. If you want more details, you can find that on the game’s official website. DwarfHeim releases exclusively on PC this fall. Stay tuned here at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
