Dungeons & Dragons are no stranger to live events. For the last few years, they have been hosting an annual livestreamed event announcing their newest campaign book. They have done various live events across the year with featured games, often to benefit charity. But 2020 is different. While their games have certainly looked different now due to pandemic restrictions, a new event coming this September will be D&D’s largest yet.

It’s called D&D Celebration 2020, and it could feature the largest Dungeons & Dragons game ever played. It will be, of course, a virtual game. Players must sign up ahead of time if they want to join in. While the event itself runs for a few days, the big fan-based game will take place on September 19th. Over a thousand players all around the world will play in the same game. The game itself is titled “Great Knucklehead Rally” and will take place in Icewind Dale. The only plot given so far is that players are taking part in a fishing tournament that doesn’t turn out as expected. Adventurer’s League is coordinating this game.

The big game isn’t the only thing to look forward to for the D&D Celebration. There will also be professional and community-led panels discussing D&D. There will be livestreamed games from big names within the tabletop fanbase, but details won’t be announced until early September.

This is also a charity event. Proceeds from tickets for those that play the “Great Knucklehead Rally” will go to Extra Life, which helps sick and injured children.

D&D Celebration 2020 comes right after the new campaign book Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is released on September 15th. So it can be assumed the “Great Knucklehead Rally” game will be correlated with this book. Perhaps players will face off against the dreaded Frostmaiden herself? For those familiar with Dungeons & Dragons lore, especially the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale, will know that knucklehead is a prized type of trout there.

The event will run live from September 18th -20th. You can find more information, and learn how to join in, here.
