What Lies in Store For Dune: Awakening Players?
Dune: Awakening is the latest game from developer Funcom and will reportedly take inspiration both from the original novels by author Frank Herbert’s Dune novels as well as the recent movie by filmmaker Denis Villeneuve.
The game will supposedly allow thousands of players to share the world of Arrakis and task them with building their own shelters, bases, and factions. They will need to build shelters to defend against sandstorms and maintain their stillsuits to survive and will be able to walk the ruins of Arrakis’s long-forgotten biological testing stations and scavenge the wreckage of fallen spaceships.
They must also head into the unmapped sectors of the planet and discover hidden secrets and riches before the coriolis storms shift the landscape, hunting for the precious spice and fending off any who might try to claim it.
“Dune: Awakening combines the grittiness and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of large-scale, persistent multiplayer games to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO. Rise from survival to dominance in a vast and seamless Arrakis shared by thousands of players,” the official description of the game reads.
To succeed, each player must Make a name for themselves among the inhabitants of Arrakis and build their own factions through spice harvesting, trade, subterfuge, and open conflict.
They can tailor their character to their liking and consume the precious spice to conquer their senses and acquire powerful abilities in the game’s combat, honing their one your craft and shaping the course of their own journey.
More information on the open beta for Dune: Awakening is expected sometime this year.
