It’s possible this device is being used so that people can connect the DUALSHOCK 4 controller to use on other devices. There are rumors that PlayStation Now will be coming to the PC soon so the device might be used for that. Not to mention the PC is already compatible to use as Remote Play.
We may have to wait until September 7th, 2016 in order to know what this device does and how it looks like. Sony will be announcing several new devices on that date including the PS4 Neo, plus the recently leaked slim PS4 console.
Sony is going “all-in” on the PS4 since gaming is the company’s most profitable division. Aside from new hardware being announced in September, we still have the PlayStation VR device to look forward to on October 13th.
