Driveclub’s long delayed and highly anticipated free PS Plus edition is “in the final stages of development” according to a tweet from the game’s director, Paul Rustchynsky. The tweet cam in response to a fan question about the free version of the game, which has seen multiple delays and an overall lack of communication since launch.
In case you haven’t followed the events, Driveclub is a major PS4 exclusive racing title that launched in October 2014. Before launch Sony and developer Evolution Studios promised that PlayStation Plus subscribers would be given a free version of the game. This PS Plus Edition would lack certain game elements and features, but would be a decent chunk of gameplay.
However, when the original game launched it was riddled with bugs, glitches, and overall poor performance. The team scrambled to get the regular game running to their standards, with the PS Plus Edition being postponed indefinitely.
Now, just about eight months later it seems that fans will finally be getting their hands on the free version of the game, which is now in a much more stable state than before. How much longer they will have to wait is still to be seen, but it is definitely good news to hear that it is close to finished.
