Sony has confirmed rumors that DriveClub will not be arriving at launch for the PlayStation 4.  The racer was set to soften the blow of the newly required PlayStation Plus subscription for online play, by offering a partial version of the game, free for all.

The game is now slated for a 2014 release, but Sony did not announce a timetable for the release.  According to Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, “The team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.”

So what’s in store for PlayStation Plus subscribers when the PS4 launches?   Sony is pointing to Contrast (trailer can be seen below),  as the game that will make up for DriveClub’s absence — and a Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer demo will be available on December 28th and 29th.

DriveClub is the second high profile release to be delayed for the PlayStation 4 this week.  Earlier, Ubisoft announced that WatchDogs would be arriving in 2014 as well.
