Today, Guardians of the Galaxy fans got some news that many of us might not have seen coming. Dave Bautista, who is known as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, won’t be returning to his role after this final movie. In a recent interview, he talked about how he wants to go on to pursue some greater roles and opportunities. The actor did speak of his love for his character Drax. “I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him,” he had said. “But there’s a relief (that it’s over). It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy-it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”
Drax is Saying Goodbye
This news might be shocking for some, but also, we were unsure if we would see all of the Guardians back again after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 anyways. However, Dave Bautista had hinted before at wanting to leave his role as Drax around May last year when fliming for the third and final movie ended. His role as Drax has definitely helped him get more popularity as an actor. His role in the MCU was the first major role Bautista had after leaving the WWE in 2010 and started acting. He first played the role of Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy which released in 2014. His character is a warrior and serives as another member of the Guardians. The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise brought in $773 million at the box office.
Dave Bautstia then appeared in two more films in the franchise, Guardians of the Galazy Vol 2 and Vol 3. He then appeared in other movies in the MCU like Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder with fellow Guardians stars. He also played his role recently in Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which starred him and Mantis going on an adventure to give Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) a good Christmas. This hour-long special is available on Disney+ on Nov 25th, 2022. The final appearance of beloved character Drax will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which will be in theaters May 5th.
