With free updates abound for the retelling of DragonBall Z’s story, the team at Cyberconnect2 and Bandai Namco have been working to create an entirely new card game. Released earlier this year, DragonBall Z: Kakarot gives a deep look at the events of the original show’s plot and characters. While only going over the original storyline from the ’90s, the team has been working towards making the game an even better experience. Starting with adding some of the early storylines from DragonBall Super, Bandai is set to include the new transformations and characters from the continuation series. The team has also been working on a new mob battle mode for their second DLC addition, with a whole new card battle mode on the way as well. Announced in a new YouTube trailer showcasing the mode in its entirety, the new addition to DragonBall Z: Kakarot is set to launch Tuesday, October 27th.

Despite a weak showing at the Tokyo Game Show announcing the already leaked card battle game mode, the DragonBall Z trailer shown today does shed more light on the complexity. There are 3 main types of cards comprising of Characters, Events, and a few special cards. The game works on an energy system similar to Hearthstone and has a field reminiscent of YuGiOh. The Event cards comprise of beats from the story or key moments in DragonBall Z that seem to also include in-game footage of these cutscenes. While not retaining the scale of the respective card games that inspired DragonBall Z: Kakarot’s card system, there are only 4 different symbols for individual card combinations. The main gameplay revolves around having a better power level and health points. Activating Event and special cards for powerful effects is the key to winning against your opponent.
