DragonBall FighterZ has announced that they are adding Master Roshi to the game this September as the third character for ‘FighterZ Pass 3’. After the arrival of the fusion of two Saiyan girls Kefla and another Goku ‘reskin’ Ultra Instinct Goku, it’s quite surprising that a character with a low power level is also added in this Season Pass. I’d say it’s surprising that Master Roshi is even available in FighterZ at all, but Yamcha already exists in the base game anyway, so…
Although Bandai Namco Entertainment America released a one minute and 12 seconds trailer for Master Roshi’s reveal, the actual character teaser is extremely short. In the video above, we were only shown 17 seconds of new footage. A three-string combo, a launcher, and Mafuba (or Evil Containment Wave) as Roshi’s special attack — from 0:37 to 0:54. Even Ultra Instinct Goku’s reveal was twice as long! Thus it’s rather hard to judge how this character will play all things considered.
On the other hand, having Evil Containment Wave as one of his specials is predictable. Master Roshi’s other signature move, Kamehameha, is already used by most of FighterZ‘s cast as their basic projectile/ranged attack. That left Evil Containment Wave as the Turtle Hermit’s other signature move. It’s one of the rare techniques in the anime and manga. The people who knew it were only Master Mutaito, Roshi, Piccolo, Goku (after he learned it from Roshi to attempt sealing Zamasu), and Future Trunks.
