Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition, the mouthful title of the updated version of Dragon Quest XI, finally lands on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Windows Store today. In the latest entry of the classic RPG series, you take the mantle of The Luminary and are joined by a unique cast of loyal companions, traveling across continents to uncover the mystery of their past.
Similar to other Square Enix’ remasters or rereleases such as Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the original Dragon Quest XI on the PlayStation Store and Steam is now delisted. You can no longer buy the original version and have to grab the new one. While there is a tiny bit of graphical downgrade between versions, fortunately, Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition is still jam-packed with many completely new features that will please long-time fans and loads of new contents to explore for new players:
- New character side stories
- Marriage and partner options
- Party members are all visible when traversing the overworld
- Retro 2D mode, changes the game’s look with classic 16-bit retro-inspired graphics at any church or priest
- 16-bit World of Tickington, that takes you to past Dragon Quest worlds full of additional side-quests
- Japanese or original English voice-over options
- Switch between fully orchestrated and the original synthesized soundtracks or between Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest VIII soundtracks
- Photo mode
- Additional Draconian Mode options, adjustable battle speeds, and more
A demo is available to download if you want to have a taste (or compare the looks) of the game first, offering up to 10 hours of content from the opening of the game. Progress from the demo can be carried over to the full game and completing the main scenario will give you three Seed of Skill items. The item grants you an extra skill point and you can use it after transferring the demo save data to the full game.
