With an orchestrated soundtrack no less.
At long last, Nintendo Switch owners will be able to get their hands on the JRPG of this generation — Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age — in the form of a new version: Dragon Quest XI S.
As you might recall, Dragon Quest 11 arrived in the West last year for the PlayStation 4 and PC, but not only did it not come on the 3DS like it did in Japan, the Switch version didn’t arrive at the same time due to various complications.
Thankfully, Nintendo aficionados will finally be able to get their hands on Dragon Quest XI and it will be more than worth the wait, as it will also be coming with various extras to make it worthy of the “definitive edition” moniker that it carries.
So far, we know that there will be extra stories focusing on individual characters and there will also be dual audio support. Most importantly, however, this game will feature orchestrated tracks.
Why is this so significant? It hasn’t been done before.
As mentioned in our Dragon Quest XI review, the series’ composer, Koichi Sugiyama is renowned for his general refusal to allow the orchestrated versions of his music to be featured in Western versions of Dragon Quest, leaving us with the far inferior MIDI versions in its place. No one knows how this development happened, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone complaining about it — the difference between the MIDI and orchestrated soundtracks is just that significant.
Square Enix promised more info about Dragon Quest XI S in the coming months, so hopefully that news comes sooner rather than later.
