Nintendo of America’s Twitter page has teased the addition of a Donkey Kong-themed area to be included as part of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan, which opened earlier this year. The new area is set to open in the park sometime in 2024, according to the official press release.

The area will include many homages to the iconic Donkey Kong series laid throughout its many facilities. These will include a roller coaster, interactive experiences, and themed merchandise and food that will be available to all guests. Promotional imagery for the new area also seems to show the coaster weaving through sections of trees before passing through the great ape’s golden temple. Guests will also be able to walk through the lush jungles inspired by the home of Donkey Kong and his friends.
The addition of the new Donkey Kong area at Super Nintendo World areas will increase the overall size of the park by about 70%, adding to the current attractions of Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, and Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown. The area will be designed with direct input from legendary game designers and the creator of the Mario franchise, Shigeru Miyamoto. An official statement the developer featured on the press release reads:
The Donkey Kong franchise began in 1981 with the classic arcade game, which only grew and spread across the world. The series has since expanded to include titles across many systems, including the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Wii, and Nintendo Switch, selling over has sold over 65 million units worldwide as of March 2021.
