Considered by many to be one of the Wii U’s greatest games, as well as one of the best 2D platformers ever created, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is heading to the Nintendo Switch. The updated release will arrive on May 4th, porting over the entire original game found on Wii U while adding a new mode that will make things a bit different and easier for new players.

The new mode features Funky Kong, who will use his surfing ability to blast through stages. His surfboard will allow him to double jump and hover, while he can also perform infinite rolls and underwater maneuvers. This all adds up to a much easier experience for the notoriously difficult game.

If you prefer Retro’s original take on the DK franchise, that’s available as well, and both modes can be played via co-op, even in undocked mode. Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze was a critical darling when it launched in 2014, but due to its release on the Wii U and the overall lack of enthusiasm surrounding challenging 2D platformers, the game never quite found the audience it might have deserved.

The Nintendo Switch is surging though, and it seems like every game on it finds some sort of decent playerbase. Let’s hope this one does and we can look forward to more fantastic 2D action. You can see the full announcement right here.
