Nintendo is adding more classic games to the Nintendo Switch this September with Donkey Kong Country 2 being the headliner. The impromptu announcement hit social media all of a sudden as Nintendo has been wanting to do in the last few weeks.

While Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest is without a doubt the biggest reveal, three other classic titles are coming to the handheld/console device in the upcoming days. Mario’s Super Picross and The Peace Keepers will be releasing for the Switch while S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team will be available for the Nintendo Switch Online NES.

The release of Donkey Kong Country 2 will mark the game’s 25th anniversary. Anniversary editions of games are something Nintendo does well as the company seems to have bundles or releases for their larger properties on every big birthday. DKC 2 originally hit shelves in Japan back on November 21, 1995, and December 3 in the United States and Europe. It was available for the SNES developed by Rare and published by Nintendo and served as a direct sequel to Donkey Kong Country.

It has been re-released several times over the years with the first re-release being on the Game Boy Advance in 2004. Then it saw its first virtual release for the Wii in 2007, then again in 2015 for the Wii U. It was so successful that it got a sequel itself in 1996 with the lengthy title of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble.

Super Mario Picross is a puzzle game that was released on the Super Famicom on September 14, 1995, only in Japan. It was available for the Wii in 2007, however.  The Peace Keepers, on the other hand, is described as a beat ’em up video game released for the SNES in 1993. S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team was a side scroller shooter that was released for the NES in the early 90s.
