The trailer for Doctor Who season 13 was released today. BBC America also shared the release date of October 31 and a title for this season: Doctor Who: Flux.
This trailer opens up with a broadcast of Jodie Whittaker’s character the Doctor making a video distress call saying, “The Flux is coming.” The Doctor then warns of the series of villains that she is about to face. Those villains include well-known villains like the Sontarans and the Weeping Angels. She will also apparently face “creatures known as the Ravagers and enemies from across the universe.”
Interestingly, Yahoo! Entertainment reported this morning that all official Doctor Who social media outlets had been wiped. This caused speculation that a serious announcement regarding the new season was approaching.
Collider reported that Doctor Who: Flux will consist of eight episodes. This will be Whittaker’s final full season as the famous time lord. She will appear in three specials in 2022 before handing the role over to someone else. Whittaker is not the only one departing the series. It was recently announced that showrunner Chris Chibnall would be departing. Former showrunner Russell T. Davies will return and take the reins again.
Doctor Who started in 1963, treating viewers to the many adventures of the time-traveling hero who would regenerate with a different body whenever he was mortally wounded. The original series ended in 1989, but Davies revived the series in 2005.
Many actors have played the Doctor over the years with Whittaker being the first woman to do so. She took over in 2017 replacing Peter Capaldi. Recently, she and former doctor David Tennant reprised their takes on the character in the video game Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality. That game will be released on October 14.
