It seems that the proverbial MCU torch has been passed, but not to who you’d expect. No, it isn’t the new and improved Captain America (though he does have a movie coming). Nor is it Thor, the biggest powerhouse of the remaining OG Avengers line-up. According to Kevin Feige, Doctor Strange will be taking the reigns as the center of the MCU from now on. Called “the best of us” by the Ancient One, it’s only fitting that Strange is our top guy now. With the multiverse exploding outward after his coming movie, who else is best to deal with it?
This Sick MCU Multiverse Can Only Be Cured By a Doctor’s Hands
Doctor Strange has been slowly weaved into the fabrics of a ton of Phase 4 content. He made a significant appearance in What If…? He was also a supporting character in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Though he wasn’t technically present, the Sanctum Santorum and Wong did appear in Shang Chi. Add the fact that Doctor Strange was also cut from WandaVision, and he’s been in almost every major step of this phase. With the immediate MCU theme being a multiversal catastrophe, it makes sense that Doctor Strange is necessary. He understands the secrets and magic of the universe better than anyone.
Strange Is The Beginning and End of a Multiversal Break
So far, the MCU multiverse has been contained. We’ve seen glimpses of other worlds, but none directly invading our own. It seems that thanks to Strange, this will all change. Doctor Strange’s efforts in the upcoming movie will likely be the center of the MCU multiverse’s official start. With it will come many interlopers into the current MCU, including something Mutant-related. Based on the tone of the trailers and the presence of many strange types of Strange, we can only assume it was the good doctor who pushed us over the edge. We’ll just have to see how he steps up to the plate from here.
