If you are wondering if zombies ever respawn after being killed and entirely dead after a while, the answer is yes. In vanilla settings, all zombies eventually respawn, but it won’t be for a while. At first, a slow trickle of zombies will roam back into locations such as towns. Over time and with the lack of player involvement, locations will eventually reach their pre-player zombie population levels. The base setting before the slow trickle of zombies begins is around 72 hours of in-game time.

Because of this, all zombies will respawn eventually, and you will fully get rid of them. However, you can adjust the spawn setting to either disable zombies from respawning or increase the time it takes for them to respawn. Here’s how you adjust Zombie spawns in Project Zomboid.

How to adjust Zombie spawns in Project Zomboid

To adjust Zombie spawns in Project Zomboid depends on if you are playing on a Multiplayer Server or a Singleplayer. Changes must be made within the server’s settings for Multiplayer Server games. But for Singleplayer games, you can just host a Sandbox game and edit the setting below under Advanced Zombie Settings.

As shown above, to disable zombie spawns, change the number under the Respawn Hours option to zero or a higher number than the current setting. Doing so will either increase the time it takes for zombies to spawn or disable respawning altogether. If you want to make other changes regarding zombies and how they behave, you can find more settings under Advanced Zombie Settings.
