Call of Duty: Warzone is a free-to-play multiplayer game available on multiple platforms. The popular Battle Royale has a massive player base on consoles, including Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Being an online experience, do players need an Xbox Live subscription to play Warzone Pacific? Let’s find out.
Is Xbox Live Gold required to play Call of Duty: Warzone?
No, you don’t need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription to play Call of Duty: Warzone or any other free-to-play online game, such as Apex Legends, Warframe, or Fortnite. Previously, Xbox players needed Xbox Live Gold to play multiplayer games. However, Microsoft removed the requirement of this subscription model for free online games in early 2021.
After the change, an Xbox Live Gold membership is only required to play paid titles on Xbox consoles. That being said, you still need to create or own an Xbox Live account to connect to online service games. Creating an account doesn’t cost you money, but you can purchase a membership to play paid games and access other Xbox Live features, if needed.
