Disney is responding to criticisms made by Peter Dinklage regarding their remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Dinklage is notably unhappy, and Disney is taking him seriously.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dinklage blasted the announced Snow White remake when appearing on Monday’s episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast.

Dinklage said in the podcast that he was “little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that (expletive) backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together?”

Disney heeds Game of Thrones alumni’s words

Disney has taken note of Dinklage’s criticisms, and they’ve responded, saying they intend to take a “different approach” with the seven dwarfs in this remake. The details of that different approach have not been disclosed, but Disney insists they are consulting with members of the dwarfism community to avoid reinforcing stereotypes.

Dinklage is a widely acclaimed actor known best for his Emmy-winning work as Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones. He expressed frustration with actors in the dwarfism community being type-casted into stereotypical roles. Even when he appeared in 2003’s Elf, he made it clear that he refused to play an actual elf. Dinklage has no association with the Snow White remake.

The remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will start production this year. Rachel Zegler will star as the titular character. Andrew Burnap will play the male lead, while Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot will play the Evil Queen.
