Disney has released a second trailer for the live-action Pinocchio movie. Deadline reports that the trailer and several stills from the film have been released to promote the remake of the 1940 classic. While we got a trailer back in May, this is our first look at the title character (voiced by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) in motion. We also get our first look at Jiminy Cricket (voiced by Joseph Gordon-Leavitt), who is an exact replica of his 1940 counterpart. We also see characters such as Honest John the Fox (Keegan-Michael Key), a young boy who we can assume is Lampwick, and a new character Sofia the seagull, voiced by Goodfellas actress Lorraine Bracco.
New Trailer for ‘Pinocchio’ Recreates Memorable Moments
This trailer for Robert Zemeckis’ live-action Pinocchio recreates many moments from the original Disney film. We see Ghipetto (Tom Hanks) dancing the puppet across his shop, Pinocchio introduced on stage, thrown in a cage, going to Pleasure Island, and battling against Monstro the whale. We also see the infamous moment where his nose starts to grow when he lies. With all of these memorable moments being recreated, and with all the original characters so closely modeled after the original film (except Cynthia Erivo’s Blue Fairy), this live-action remake appears to be staying true to the original film while adding in a few more characters and plot points.
Gizmodo points out that while the film is live-action, there is a lot of CGI used to recreate the characters. This is to be expected, as we already knew the title character would be a replica from the original film when we saw the first image.
Another Pinocchio film directed by Guillermo del Toro is set to come to Netflix in December. Until then, Disney+ users can look forward to the live-action remake of 1940’s Pinocchio being released on December 8.
