Today Walt Disney Studios released a hilarious teaser trailer for the Chip’ n Dale Rescue Rangers movie, an animated action-adventure comedy from the talents of Disney and comedy trio The Lonely Island. Although the film has the same title as the popular 80s animated series, Disney insists, “it’s not a reboot, it’s a comeback.”
According to the trailer’s Youtube synopsis, the film takes place in modern-day Los Angeles, 30 years after the success of the Chip’ n Dale television series. We catch up with Chip (voiced by John Mulaney), who is currently living a domesticated life as an insurance salesman, and Dale (voiced by Andy Samberg), who’s still holding on to the past and spends his time trying to stay in the spotlight by undergoing CGI surgery and making appearances at cons. Now, with the mysterious disappearance of a former castmate, they’ll have a chance to assume their Rescue Ranger roles once again.
The teaser trailer is full of side-splitting antics, high-flying adventure, and guest appearances from animated icons including Roger Rabbit, Scrooge McDuck, the cast of My Little Pony, and MC Skat Cat from Paula Abdul’s 90s single Opposites Attract. Although the hybrid of animation and live-action is something we’ve seen before in films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Cool World, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers sets itself apart by combining live-action with several different art styles, some of which come together simultaneously. Watch the Chip’ n Dale teaser below.
