Disney pulls on the fans nostalgia strings

After yesterday’s leak, it looks like the cat is out of the bag now, as Disney has officially announced Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King. The collection will contain re-releases of the classics Disney’s Aladdin and The Lion King, and will be coming out this Fall for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and will cost $29.99.

While the company could’ve made this straight and simple, they’ve made the interesting choice to include different versions of both the 16-bit titles. Here’s the list of what’s included:

  • Disney’s Aladdin – SEGA Genesis
  • Disney’s Aladdin – Game Boy, and Super Game Boy
  • Disney’s Aladdin Final Cut-Sega Genesis
  • Disney’s Aladdin Trade Show Demo-Sega Genesis
  • The Lion King – SEGA Genesis
  • The Lion King – Super Nintendo
  • The Lion King – Game Boy and Super Game Boy

It’s quite a unique take as far as collections go, especially since we’ve never even heard of the Final Cut or a Trade Show Demo of Disney’s Aladdin. It just goes to show what the developers, Digital Eclipse, are willing to do to ensure that this is more than just a re-release of two of the best side-scrolling games of the 90’s. In addition, all titles will have slightly up-scaled graphics for modern televisions, a rewind feature that lets you turn back time to undo your mistakes while you play, an art gallery, and a music player with songs from both games.

Digital Eclipse is known for their work on other collections, such as the Mega Man Legacy Collection, so we’re pretty sure that these titles are in good hands. No release date was given with the announcement, but since it’s coming out later this year it’s only a matter of time before they reveal that as well. Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King launches this Fall for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
