Terry Pratchett’s classic Discworld series of novels will provide the setting for a new series, titled The Watch, coming later this year to BBC America.

The first official images for The Watch have been revealed by BBC America, giving fans a chance to get a feel for the production. The series is set to run for an eight-episode first season and will Star Richard Dormer, who played Beric Dondarrion in HBO’s Game of Thrones, as Captain Sam Vimes of the titular watch. Other main cast members include Adam Hugill as Constable Carrot, Jo Eaton-Kent as Constable Cheery, Marama Corlett as Corporal Angua, Lara Rossi as Lady Sybil Ramkin and Sam Adewunmi as Carcer Dun. The show has secured writing talent from Doctor Who, Torchwood, Skins, and Little America, asl well as directors from Doctor Who and Outlander. Production for the series began in September in Capetown, South Africa.

While the Discworld series is a sprawling, comedic fantasy series of forty-one novels with multiple interweaved storylines, The Watch will focus on the struggles of the burgeoning city guard of Ankh-Morpork, the largest city in Discworld.

The official word on The Watch from BBC America:

BBC America’s recent track record with series has been met with great success with the Emmy-nominated Killing Eve and Golden Globe-winning Luther. On the other hand, there are shows like Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, which never really found an audience.

Who can say which The Watch will turn out to be?
