Everyone from my generation likely has a favorite Digimon voice actor. And one of the most well-known is Philece Sampler. While she was known for many roles, there was a fan favorite. Mimi Tachikawa. It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to the iconic voice.
Digimon Voice Actor Philece Sampler Dead at 67
Nelson Aspen, a fellow actor, and close friend, recently shared news of the Digimon voice actor’s death. Aspen had been waiting for a birthday call from his friend. But, a call came a day later to inform him of what happened. Her family shared that the actress suffered a heart attack. It was just a little over two weeks before her 68th birthday.
One may not always know her name. But with the many roles are on her resume, you’ve likely heard her voice. In addition to her Legend of Korra role, the Digimon voice actor has also voiced other characters. She’s also provided the voice for Lori from Zatch Bell, Mead in The Seven Deadly Sins, and more recently Sabine Cheng from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.
Many know Philece Sampler for her work on anime and games. The first voice acting she did was for the Lupin the 3rd anime from the late 70s. Her ‘big break, however, likely came when she starred in the daytime drama Days of our Lives. Years later, she would provide the voice for Mataro Mankanshoku in Kill La Kill, Toph Beifong in The Legend of Korra, and Peggy Ann in Overkill’s The Walking Dead.
With such a lengthy resume, the new voice of Sabine Cheng has big shoes to fill.
Our condolences to the family and friends of Philece Sampler in their time of mourning.
