Dexter: New Blood has released new images from episode 1. Since the announcement of an additional ten episodes of the series, there has been excitement and reservation. The original series concluded in 2013 and became highly criticized. Many fans took issue with the death of Deb Morgan and how Dexter left the series. Maybe it is too soon to think about revitalizing the series, but it is a chance to correct the original ending. Serial killers are popular in cinema, especially with the tragic news of recent cancelations.

Dexter: New Blood follows Dexter as he lives a new life under an assumed name. Recent trailers have shown that his son Harrison finally finds him after the 2013 series finale. There is much exciting casting news, including Jennifer Carpenter returning as Deb Morgan. This is particularly interesting as Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall divorced during the previous iteration of the show. There are many questions about the series. One thing for certain is that Deb will be returning as the Dark Passenger.

Deb Morgan Returns As the Dark Passenger

The Dark Passenger was a classic device that Dexter used in the original series. When the series first aired, Dexter’s Dark Passenger came in the form of his foster father, Harry Morgan. The Dark Passenger is what Dexter referred to as the entity driving him to kill. He would visualize what his father would tell him to do after Harry had already died. This often came in the form of reminding Dexter about the code he promised to follow. Only killing those who deserved it.

When Dexter: New Blood was first announced, there was much speculation about who would appear as the Dark Passenger. There is no doubt that James Remar would be widely accepted back with open arms. However, there is the subject of Deb who died at the end of the last season. Dexter was devastated that his sister had died and left his entire life behind because of it. He even abandoned his son with Rita.

Dexter often stated that Deb was his only human connection. It would make sense that she would take up the mantle of the Dark Passenger. Jennifer Carpenter has been confirmed to return. The only way to bring her back from the dead is to make her the Dark Passenger. These new images for episode 1 of Dexter: New Blood show Deb Morgan’s return. Returning as Dexter’s ghost, Deb will certainly be his voice of reason. Dexter: New Blood will premiere on Showtime on November 7.
