It has just been announced that Nintendo’s latest console will be receiving one sickly stylish port. Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, the game that saved a franchise, is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Devil May Cry 3 was so loved that it was blessed with a special edition! This edition included several added gameplay features, including the ability to play through the game as Vergil instead of Dante! And this special edition is the version that is coming to the Nintendo Switch. According to USGamer, DMC3: Special Edition will be ported onto Switch in 2020, for a modest retail price of $19.99.
The Game That Saved A Franchise
On August 23, 2001, Capcom released Devil May Cry. This incredibly difficult and utterly thrilling hack-and-slash title was extremely well-received. Its terrifying landscapes and chilling enemies combined to form a challenging combat system that tested players. The game’s spooky and difficult nature is offset by its engaging gameplay and its sassy, fun protagonist, Dante. As a result, Devil May Cry is loved by fans the world over.
Obviously, Capcom wanted to turn DMC into a franchise of its own because of the reception of the initial title. Next came Devil May Cry 2, on January 25, 2003. Unfortunately, this one flopped. DMC2 featured restrictive, cookie-cutter boss battles, an incredulously unintelligent enemy AI, and some confusing changes to its controls. Unanimously, DMC2 was found to be easy, unfulfilling and confusing, all at the same time. However, Capcom didn’t give up on their beloved demon-slaying boy, Dante.
On February 17, 2005, Devil May Cry 3 was released. Fans approached this title tentatively, due to DMC2 turning into a huge disappointment. However, those who did pick up DMC3 on release were absolutely blown away. The game functioned as a prequel to the first two titles, featuring a younger, more energetic Dante, who would have to do battle with his twin brother, Vergil. DMC3 was fresh, new and exciting in every way, while also reprising the true challenge that was DMC1.
