Have you caught up with the story yet?
Exciting news was delivered today through the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account: Kingdom Hearts III is basically finished! Tetsuya Nomura himself is quoted as saying “we’ve wrapped up development of Kingdom Hearts III!” What this means is that there won’t be any need for any further delays, and fans can now confidently anticipate the game’s January release date. As an added bonus, Square Enix has made the “Together” trailer, previously only shown in movie theaters, available to watch online. Check it out above if you haven’t already.
For those who’ve been keeping up with the news surrounding Kingdom Hearts III over the past few months, there isn’t all that much new to see here. No new worlds or characters are revealed or anything, but there are at least a couple of noteworthy tidbits. It’s no confirmed that Elsa’s snow golem will make an appearance in the Frozen world, Randall is up to no good again in Monsters Inc., and Rapunzel is going to fight alongside our heroes rather than let them do all the work. Also, it seems anyone still hoping to return to Atlantica in Kingdom Hearts III is out of luck, as it looks like Ariel’s going to be a summon this time around.
I’m proud to unveil an extended version of the trailer that’s been playing in NA cinemas. And guess what? We’ve wrapped up development of #KingdomHearts III!If you haven’t had the chance yet, now would be a good time to prep by playing 1.5+2.5 & 2.8. See you next month! – Nomura pic.twitter.com/NvZYBut3WI

It’s also worth noting that the narrator says “the battle between light and dark will reach its epic conclusion.” This could just fluff said to hype the game up, but it could also mean that Kingdom Hearts III will indeed be the final chapter of the series’ main story. Having to say goodbye to Sora and his friends will certainly be sad, but at least both fans and developers will get to send them off in style if this really is the case.
Kingdom Hearts III launches for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 25, 2019.
