Quantic Dream, the developers behind the critically acclaimed hits Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, is shifting gears for the future of their company. Today, VentureBeat broke the news that NetEase (a Chinese investment company) finalized a minority share acquisition into Quantic Dream to help them further grow and expand their company. The official statement from NetEase is as follows.

This is big news as the David Cage run studio has been exclusively in league with the Sony platform since the PlayStation 2. Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human have all come out on their respective PlayStation platforms. Sony currently does not own Quantic Dream but their partnership allowed them to create second party story based games exclusively for their consoles. With this acquisition, and how aggressive NetEase has been in the past, it is safe to assume that the days of Quantic Dream titles appearing only on Sony’s platforms are likely behind us. David Cage had this to say about the acquisition.
