Guardians have been enjoying Season of the Risen of Destiny 2, thanks to the addition of PsiOps Battlegrounds and weapon crafting to the Witch Queen expansion’s endgame. Nevertheless, most players are now waiting for the yet-to-be-named upcoming Season 17. Well, here’s all we know about Destiny 2 Season 17 so far, including gameplay changes as well as when it starts and replacing Season of the Risen.

When Does Destiny 2 Season 17 Begin?

The Witch Queen‘s third season, Season 16: Season of the Risen, is currently running from February 22nd to May 24th, 2022. With that in mind, Season 17 will begin when the current season ends, on May 24th, 2022. Below we have a complete list of the previous and upcoming Destiny 2 seasons, so don’t forget to take notes.

Destiny 2 Season 17 will continue to use the Season Pass model, which is priced at 1,000 Silver or $9.99 per season. Season 17, 18, and 19 are already included if you own the Witch Queen Deluxe Edition. Bungie also has announced several major changes/additions for the next season:

  • Most crafting resources will be phased out, with only Neutral Elements left. This move might instantly remove the need for the Relic Tether item, but no one knows for sure for now.
  • New Raids might be added every three months, and the developer has confirmed that Season 17 is getting a new one.
  • Raid activities will be split into Seasonal and Weekly:
  • Seasonal Raids will grant Pinnacle rewards.
  • Weekly Raids will be rotated every seven days. Completing a specific Weekly Challenge will give out a single Pinnacle reward.
  • Destiny 2‘s Game Director Joe Blackburn announced on Twitter that Season 17 will be getting a new Crucible map.
  • Trials of Osiris is getting a few reworks:
  • The team is going to continue to “liberally schedule” Capture Zone and Freelance weekends.
  • A few reputation updates are incoming.
  • There will be seven maps in the rotation, one of which will be determined by player votes.
  • Adept reward changes.
  • Sandbox Lead Kevin Yanes has suggested that parts of Synaptic Spear attacks are actually a “testing ground” for Arc 3.0, which will focus on fast attacks and area-of-effects. Meanwhile, the Solar 3.0 overhaul is focused on healing and burning. Both are going to be overhauled to match Stasis and Void 3.0.
  • Leaving loot pools:

  • Finite Impactor (Hand Cannon)
  • Nightfalls
  • The Comedian (Shotgun)
