After much anticipation, Bungie has finally released info on this year’s Festival of the Lost for Destiny 2. From a new event to a new gun and dinosaur costumes, there’s a lot to be excited for. This year’s event kicks off earlier than previous years, running from October 12 – November 2.

Remember the Lost

Festival of the Lost is a time when the guardians and civilians of the Tower take some time to remember those we’ve lost. Whether they’re in-game friends like our beloved Cayde-6 or friends and family that we’ve lost in real life, the Festival is a great time to celebrate their passing. By sitting in chairs made of light and basking in the glow of tower decorations with bags full of candy, one can recount the tales of those lost but not forgotten.

The new event is called Haunted Lost Sectors. From the Bungie blog post:

Haunted Lost Sectors replace the Haunted Forest of Mercury. Players will still access it via the node in the Tower destination map or the totem next to Grandma Levante. Bounties, masks, and rewards can be acquired from Eva Levante. Masks and rewards, per usual, are purchased with candy. Candy is earned by defeating enemies and completing activities while wearing a Festival of the Lost mask.

Also new this year is the Book of the Forgotten. The book contains new lore, which can be purchased with Manifested Pages. These pages are created from Spectral Pages, which are earned from the Haunted Lost Sectors. The Spectral Pages are created by defeating Headless Ones in the Haunted Lost Sectors. Manifested Pages can also be obtained from chests at the end of Haunted Lost Sectors. It wouldn’t be Destiny without a bit of grind.

New paper mache masks are also available for guardians, including Ada-1, Taniks, Eramis, Darkness Pyramid, Sweeper Bot, and Honk Moon.

Earlier this year, Bungie hosted a competition between two sets of costumes that would be available for this year’s festival. It was between dinosaurs and mythological creatures. The dinosaurs ruled the competition as they ruled the Earth so long ago. Joining the lizard kings in their domination is a new pulse rifle, the Jurassic Green Pulse Rifle.

Festival of the Lost is by far my favorite event in Destiny 2. It combines my favorite holiday with my favorite game. While running the Haunted Forest for four years was longer in the tooth than a vampire’s fang, it was still a nice break from the grind. Plus, putting on the paper mache masks and spending way too much in Eververse is always fun. We’ll have more coverage once the Destiny 2 event launches later today.
