In the Destiny 2 Solstice 2022 event, there’s a new Bonfire Bash PvE mode that sees the return of the European Aerial Zone arena. Aside from being used as a place to convert Silver Ash, there’s also a new challenge that requires players to defeat specific enemies in Bonfire Bash. One of them is the Torch the Taken Challenge. But for some reason, many Destiny 2 Guardians are having trouble progressing the Torch the Taken Challenge and are now assuming it’s bugged.

Is the Torch the Taken Challenge in Destiny 2 Actually Bugged?

Some Guardians reported that their progress in the Torch the Taken Challenge is barely progressing, and it might be bugged. No matter how many Taken enemies they defeated, it progresses really slow for some reason. Here is the in-game description of the Bonfire Bash Challenge:

Sounds simple enough, right? Look out for Taken enemies, then shoot them until 20 of them are dead. Well, on the one hand, Bungie really loves using confusing jargon that induces the “fear of missing out” (FOMO) effect. On the other hand, sometimes, their wording isn’t specific enough. And this is the case of the latter.

Yep, the Torch the Taken Challenge is not actually bugged. Instead of aiming at Normal (red health bar) Taken enemies, you have to defeat 20 Major (orange health bar), Ultra (yellow health bar), and final boss Taken that are interrupting the Bonfire Bash. And only the killing blows will count towards the Torch the Taken Challenge.

With that in mind, it is easier to tackle the Torch the Taken Challenge with friends instead of running Bonfire Bash with randoms. You and your friends can coordinate and give the tougher enemies to anyone who has yet to complete the Challenge. Meanwhile, playing with randoms will just turn into a free-for-all situation.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
