Season of the Haunted is the latest story-related batch released for Destiny 2. Now, after many weeks of playing, the storyline of Season of the Haunted is coming to an end with Catharsis missions. Here is the guide on how to complete the Catharsis mission in Destiny 2.
How to Complete Catharsis Mission in Destiny 2
The story of Season of the Haunted ends with the Catharsis mission. This mission occurs after Zavala, Crow, and Caiatl face their Nightmares in the Sever quests. Catharsis comes during the seventh and final part of the Bound in Sorrow quest. After you complete the previous quests and unlock this one, Eris will summon you to the Crown of Sorrow.
Again Eris will task you with running three tiers of Nightmare Containment and obtaining a Bound Presence. After you find them, Eris will direct you to the Catharsis mission. The mission starts from the Castellum. Kill the Cabal guarding Calus’ throne room door and head inside.
Then your fire team members will direct you to the missions as they get injured. Keep going until you find an area with a portal and many copies of Calus. You will come out in a new area called Chantry of the Darkest Hour, where you will spot Caiatl towering over corpses of Calus loyalists.
Then you are tasked to place the Nightmare Harvester, and after doing that, Calus will appear as Emperor Calus, Heral of the Witness, indicating he finally reached his goal. You will not fight Calus, but Catharsis will revisit the ix Sever missions by pitting players against the weakened versions of their final bosses.
The first boss is the Nightmare of the Fanatic, spawning before you. Take out the additional enemies and bomb the Nightmare until he goes immune. Once he does, pick up the Scyth that will spawn in the middle of the arena and shoot him until his shield breaks. He will be vulnerable, so it is best to use your Power weapon.
Defeating the Fading Nightmare of the Fanatic will take out a third of Calus’ health bar. Then Caiatl will place a Cabal shield that will soak up the impact from the boss. After Calus stops pitting skulls at you, the Nightmare of Ghaul and Nightmare of Kethiks will appear.
Both of them spawn at the same time, so it is best to pick and nuke it. There will be additional enemies around them, so take advantage of them to proc any kill skills you have. These Nightmares have the same immune mechanic as the Nightmare of the Fanatic, so look out for the Scyth that will spawn. Like the previous one, break their shield and continue the barrage.
After this, Calus will again start spitting skulls, and Caiatl will put down a Cabal shield to protect you. Then you will face the last Nightmare, which can be defeated the same way as the others. Then you will see the final cutscene for the Bound in Sorrow quest.
Destiny 2: Who is Rat in Eris’ Messages?
Once you are done, head back to the tower to pick up a Figment of Darkness, and complete the Bound in the Sorrow quest line. Now that the seven-week and Catharsis have arrived, you can also obtain the Reaper title from Season of the Haunted.
