Destiny 2 will be the first game to be available for everyone on Google Stadia once it releases later this year as part of the early adopter’s package coming in November. While this is excellent news for fans who have not played the game yet, there’s a catch.

We’ve learned that Destiny 2 players on Google Stadio are going to be limited to interacting and playing with others on the same platform. They won’t have the opportunity to play with players across the other consoles, or even PC users.

However, while this little hiccup is going to be the case at launch, the game is still going to feature the cross-save function. This feature means players who launch the game on Google Stadia do not have to start at the beginning. Instead, they’re going to have the opportunity to bring over all of their characters they played on their chosen platform, which is excellent to ensure the fanbase playing on the Stadia doesn’t have a vast grind to work through. Players can bring their characters over from the PC, Xbox One, or the PlayStation 4.

Mark Noseworthy, the general manager behind Destiny, tweeted this regarding the news.

It looks like Stadia players won’t have to wait forever to play with other players, but they should know what they’re getting into when the game launches. There’s no exact date when cross-play comes to the Stadia for Destiny 2, but fingers crossed we’re going to see it in early 2020.

We’ve already mentioned that we’d love to bring cross play to Destiny 2. There’s no policy or technological barrier preventing us from including Stadia. We’d be looking to include every platform. This year though, we’re focused on delivering cross save to all platforms. https://t.co/uSVLsBZt0S

Destiny 2 The Collection, which is the version of the title releasing on Stadia, includes the Shadowkeep and Forsaken expansions with Annual Passes, Curse of Osiris and Warmind. The core version is going free-to-play later this year but will only feature content up to the first year.
