Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train continues the hype as it is now the number 1 all-time IMAX Film in Japan. This Koyoharu Gotouge masterpiece is continuously breaking history. It even set another record in Taiwan, where it holds the number 1 film in 2020 and an All-Time Animated Film.
There is no stopping the hype train as it is also the number 1 film in Japan for its fifth straight week. Since its initial showing on October 16, its sales only slowed down by 14% more than a month later. According to the anime streaming giant Crunchyroll, Demon Slayer Mugen Train‘s accumulated earnings is JP¥ 23.3 billion or around US$ 224 million. In its current speed, it can surpass Your Name, sitting at JP¥ 25.03 billion (US$ 240 million) at fourth place. If it continues its phase, it can also reach third place, being held by Frozen at JP¥ 25.5 billion (US$ 245 million).
Demon Slayer Mugen Train is now ranked as the seventh highest-grossing film worldwide in 2020 if combined with Taiwan’s sales, as reported by animenewsetwork. Japan sales alone rank it eighth highest-grossing film 2020 worldwide. It is also the second-highest-earning animated film in 2020 next to China’s Legend of Deification (US$ 240 million.) If it continues to break the box office, it is poised to earn the highest-grossing animated film worldwide in 2020.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga is also making history, as we previously reported here on The Nerd Stash. It dominated a Japanese ranking and charts company, occupying the full top 20 of the best selling manga chart. Actually, all of Demon Slayer‘s 22 volumes are sitting on the top 22 out of the chart’s full top 30.
There are also incoming games inspired by the series. Demon Slayer: Keppü Kengeki Royale is a battle-type survival action mobile game that will pin Demon Slayers against human eating Demons. Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Keppütan, on the other hand, is slated on PlayStation 4 and follows the story of the anime.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train is scheduled to arrive in the west in 2021.
