You’d be forgiven if you’ve never heard of Deck Of Ashes. However, if you’re after a hardcore story-driven RPG deck-building game, you may do well to pay attention. Released to reasonably good reviews on the PC, Deck Of Ashes is a story-driven deck-building roguelike with a dark art style reminiscent of games like Darkest Dungeon. If style points were awarded this game would be getting a 10 based on the trailer at least, especially as all the characters, monsters, and locations are hand-drawn.
Deck Of Ashes is also procedurally generated, meaning every game will feel slightly different and will add plenty of replayability. Add in the four different story campaigns for each of the main characters, and we could be on to a winner. Take a look at the trailer:
Thankfully, PC players won’t be having all the fun as Deck Of Ashes has now been announced for consoles. Namely the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, this won’t be until Q2 of 2021, so there’s a bit of a wait. Each character will have access to over 100 different cards as players build their decks throughout the game, finding the best cards to suit individual playstyles and vanquish the enemies. With permadeath, a fully stacked deck could be vital.
