We’re just recovering from the huge Death Stranding reveal event, which has ended up showing a brand new 9-minute long trailer and a release date fixed at November 8, 2019. The game is rumored to be coming on PC after 6-12 months, but for the time being it’s a PS4 exclusive.

Over the last few hours, Hideo Kojima has been discussing the title a lot on Twitter, sharing more details about characters and gameplay mechanics he think will be relevant throughout our gameplay. One of the most interesting is the one about the supposed stealth gameplay.

Kojima has indeed explained that Death Stranding won’t be a stealth game at all, and provided a brand new definition for it that he believes is more fitting on what he is striving to build. The title “is not a stealth game. It is a brand new action game with the concept of connection (strand). I call it Social Strand System, or simply Strand Game.”

Whatever, I know what I’ve seen, and the least we could say is that, especially in the real world dimension where Sam is expected to deliver packages, you’ll be prompted to act silently as the character is not armed very well. In the trailer, we saw him fighting with melee skills and bags, which doesn’t look so effective.

On top of that, Kojima also revealed that the entire area we’ve seen in the latest gameplay trailer is going to be explorable, as none of the environments which are being put on display over there is planned to be just a “set” for the game’s story.

“In the new Death Stranding trailer, there’s a scene Sam sets up the rope. The snow mountain is not the set, the path exists, and you can actually go climb up the mountain,” he said. “The snow mountain appears in the beginning of the trailer is exactly what it is.”

This means the explorable area will be huge, although it remains to be seen how much stuff we’ll find in it. Metal Gear Solid V was more a sandbox rather than a proper open world, and the same could happen here, but in his previous game, we can’t say areas were filled with lots of stuff to do outside of resource scavenging and few outposts.
