When Deadly Premonition released back in 2010, fans and critics alike didn’t know how to take it. The survival horror game was odd, to say the least. Some players loved it while others didn’t get it at all. Critics scores at the time ranged from a poor 2/10 to a perfect 10.
Personally, I loved it, the whole experience felt like a playable version of Twin Peaks, and it had a certain charm even with the rough gameplay, perhaps because of it. Since the release, Deadly Premonition has been ported to a number of consoles, received an updated directors cut version, and even had a sequel announced. The game is now a bona fide cult classic.
A sequel entitled Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise was announced for the Nintendo Switch back in September, and since then, things have gone a bit quiet. Until now.
We now have an official release date for the game, and it’s much sooner than you may think. Retailing at a price of $49.99 Deadly Premonition 2 will launch worldwide on July 10. That’s less than three months away, and I can’t wait.
The sequel will see the return of everyone’s favorite coffee whisperer, FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan, and will be set in a modern-day Boston. Players will investigate the Le Carre serial murders, and through a series of flashbacks, the game will act as a prequel and sequel at the same time. It’s Resident Evil 3 all over again.
Fans can expect more of what they loved from the original with an open town to travel around again, this time with the option of a skateboard. Yes, an actual skateboard that will allow you to do tricks, because why not?
Both the board and playable character can be upgraded to improve speed and trick landing. It’s bizarre, and I’m fully on board.
I can’t wait to see more on the next Deadly Premonition in the coming months, especially some gameplay and more details on the available mini-games such as bowling. If you missed the original, it’s currently on offer for 50% off over on the Nintendo EShop until May 17.
