DC announced today that its streaming platform, DC Universe, is undergoing an important transition. DC will rebrand it as DC Universe Infinite, a comics-only platform. All of its previous streaming content, such as Young Justice, Titans, and Doom Patrol, will move to HBO Max. Alongside this announcement, HBO Max renewed the animated Harley Quinn series for a third season. It joined HBO’s platform in August.
DC Universe Infinite will offer over 24,000 titles spanning eight decades. It will also give members the option to read new titles sixth months after their on-sale date. This is an improvement over the DCU’s one-year offer. Additionally, members gain earlier access to digital-first comics like Injustice: Year Zero and Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red. Along with the digital-first titles, members get DC Universe Infinite Originals, exclusive content created solely for the platform. DC plans a global expansion beginning next Summer.
Finally, members can enjoy DC fan community events. They’ve planned these events throughout 2021, though didn’t give any other specifics. DC publisher and chief creative officer Jim Lee said in a statement:
The comics company has had a hectic year. Although DC FanDome drew in a ton of viewers, DC was hit by major layoffs in August, including many staff at DC Universe.
