Justice League Annual 2022 dropped today and revealed a royal future for DC’s Naomi. Per Bleedingcool, the time-traveling comic gave a glimpse into what awaits Naomi, and it seems to involve a crown. However, who or what Naomi rules over has yet to be revealed. Plus, introducing an ambiguous time-traveler means the future is not set in stone. Writer Brian Michael Bendis will likely tackle this plot in future issues of Justice League.
Who is Naomi?
The DC Comics character Naomi was created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell. The character was first introduced in the Naomi comic series, where her origins were discovered. Though her birth parents are metahuman, she is raised on Earth by the normal Duffie family. When her powers manifest, she uses them for vengeance against that man that murdered her birth parents.
Nicknamed “Powerhouse,” Naomi has an immense powerset. She wields the same energy as her metahuman parents. This means she can fly, release energy from her hands, and create a super suit. She is also physically resilient to attack and super strong. However, the comic is more than just a superhero tale. Naomi feels like an important story to tell that happens to have super elements.
What Happened in Justice League Annual 2022?
During the time-traveling comic, as the titular group celebrates the return of Wonder Woman, OMAC crashes the party with troubling news. The future doesn’t look so good for Hawkgirl. Plus, a mysterious time-traveler seems to be causing trouble with each of the League members. This prompts the issue to delve into the future and offer fans a glimpse of what may come.
In one instance, it is revealed that Naomi has become queen in the future. The queen of what exactly is not known, but this is a good bit of information for the superhero teen. The CW show Naomi focuses on the titular superhero as portrayed by Kaci Walfall. Directed by Ava DuVernay, the show is praised for shifting the focus away from what superheroes are expected to look like in media. It is also being lauded for subverting what fans have come to expect from traditional superhero media. Fans of the comic will surely fall in love with the adaptation.
