Courtesy of IGN, DC Comics has released the official trailer for their next animated film, Batman: Death In The Family. You can check out the trailer down below:
Not many DC Comics characters have gained more notoriety after their death than Jason Todd. The second Robin met his end in the late 1980s A Death In The Family story-arc. In that arc, DC Comics actually asked fans whether or not Robin should die in the story. Ultimately, fans decided it was time to move on from Todd and the character was killed off by The Joker. Years later, a resurrected Jason Todd would return as the villainous Red Hood, seeking vengeance against Batman and The Joker.
In 2010, DC Comics adapted this storyline to animation with Batman: Under The Red Hood. Death In The Family isn’t a direct prequel to that film but a few of Under The Red Hood’s voice cast are returning. Some of these names include Bruce Greenwood as Batman/Bruce Wayne, John DiMaggio as The Joker, and Vincent Martella as a young Jason Todd.
If you watched the trailer, you would know that Batman: Death In The Family isn’t going to be your typical animated movie. Taking cues from various interactive media like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Carmen Sandiego: To Steal Or Not To Steal, Batman: Death In The Family is going to allow you to make crucial story decisions throughout the movie. Those decisions will impact Jason Todd’s path and eventually, his fate. This also calls back to how the character died in the original storyline. Once again, it’s up to the fans.
Batman: Death In The Family will release digitally and on Blu-ray sometime in Fall 2020.
