During their “Gotham Publishing Panel” at San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics announced a new Batman Incorporated comic. Writer Ed Brisson (Ghost Rider) and artist John Timms (Young Justice) collaborate on this Grant Morrison-inspired title. It has been nearly a decade since a team utilized this name. Ghost-Maker leads this new team of international heroes who follow in the Dark Knight’s footsteps. The preview covers show a roster that includes the Batman of Japan, Dark Ranger, El Gaucho, Knight, Man-of-Bats, and his sidekick Red Raven, Nightrunner, and Wingman. Each of these characters served on the previous incarnation of Batman Incorporated. Clownhunter, from 2020’s Fear State, and Grey Wolf, from Batman Annual 2022, also join their ranks.
A Brief Batman Incorporated History
Grant Morrison created Batman Incorporated way back in 2010. Following the events of Final Crisis, Batman and Robin, and The Return of Bruce Wayne, Batman decided to elevate his mission in Gotham City to a global level. Bouncing around time after being zapped by Darkseid’s Omega Beams will do that to a man. The original title ran from 2010-2013, ending after Damian Wayne’s death.
Eventually, Lex Luthor picked up where Bruce left off during the “The Abyss” story arc. Bruce got the band back together to put a stop to Superman’s arch-nemesis and ended up toying with the idea of reviving the group of international heroes himself. That’s when Ghost-Maker took on a leadership role in Batman Annual 2022 (where Grey Wolf debuted) and revived the team, allowing Bruce to keep his focus on Gotham.
A few heroes existed within the DC Universe before Grant Morrison wrote his Batman epic, while others were wholly created within the pages of the original 2010 Batman Inc. storyline.
DC Comics plans to put Batman Incorporated #1 in your local comic book store on October 11, 2022. There will be variant covers
