It looks like DC Comics can’t get enough of the Main Man. Lobo, the Last Czarnian and the baddest badass in the DC universe, is getting starring roles in at least three new comics in 2021. In August, fans of the intergalactic bounty hunter are going to be treated to a three-issue, prestige-format miniseries titled Superman vs. Lobo that will see the Main Man go up against the Man of Steel. Hack/Slash creator Tim Seeley and co-writer Sarah Beattie are the writers on the project with art from Mirka Andolfo (Punchline).
Though he isn’t strictly a Superman character, Lobo has had some memorable throwdowns with the Last Son of Krypton both in DC’s comics and in other media. They’re basically polar opposites, with Kal-El being the last survivor of his planet Krypton’s destruction and Lobo being the one responsible for his planet Czarnia being obliterated.
Will they team up against a bigger villain, will they just kill each other, or will Lobo mess things up for everyone? That last option seems the most likely.
Published under the Black Label mature readers designation, Superman vs. Lobo is going to be a no-holds-barred slugfest but DC has even more comics starring the fan-favorite anti-hero.
Justice League: Last Ride, a monthly series featuring the last days of the Justice League, launched its first issue on May 12. The series follows a fractured Justice League as they help the Green Lanterns imprison Lobo for his crimes. And for fans of Lobo’s daughter, the Teen Titan known as Crush, there’s an exciting new series set to kick off on June 1. Crush & Lobo from Mariko Tamaki and Amancay Nahuelpan stars the father-daughter duo on a crazy new adventure.
Crush recently quit the Teen Titans and it looks like she’s got some steam to blow off. And in DC comics, nobody blows off steam better or more violently than Lobo.
Here’s the synopsis for Crush & Lobo #1:
All things considered, it’s looking like a good year for Lobo fans. And who’s to tell what’s next for the Main Man after these stories?
Crush & Lobo #1 will be released on June 1, Justice League: Last Ride #2 arrives June 9, and Superman vs. Lobo #1 will be out on August 24.
